 Just thought I'd put some pics up of the project I have been working on for the past 5 months (since moving to NH). For those who don't know, it's a "mixed-reality" training program called IIT (Infantry Immersive Trainer) for use by the Marines to train soldiers who are deploying to Iraq. We wrote the software and some other groups built the facility to look like Iraqi homes, etc. The marines can shoot simulation rounds (made out of some kind of wax) at the virtual characters and they respond by dying, shooting back, etc.

Anyways, it looks pretty cool when it's up and running. There are infrared lasers that "shoot" the screen which are then picked up by IR cameras and they tell us where on the screen the shot happened. Then we translate that into the 3D virtual world to see if a character got shot, etc. They also have a thermal camera which picks up the actual rounds hitting the wall and turns that into a shot coordinate, but it doesn't seem as accurate. The advantage is you don't have to have a laser mounted to your gun. Well, there it is.
